What is Subaru Eyesight?

Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist technology is a core piece of active safety technology that’s fitted as standard across Forester, XV, Outback, Levorg and Impreza. It acts like a second pair of eyes on the road – to help keep you and your passengers protected, informed and safe at all times. EyeSight uses two cameras to constantly scan the road ahead, accurately tracking other road users – such as cars, motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians – to identify potential hazards.

When equipped with EyeSight, the 2020 Subaru Forester received the highest possible 5-Star safety rating by Euro NCAP for overall safety, achieving 97% for driver safety, a figure higher than any other make or model sold in Europe today. The Pre-Collision Braking feature can even apply full braking force in emergency situations, helping you avoid or reduce frontal impacts.

Subaru Eyesight is standard equipment on every new Subaru that we offer for sale in Ireland today

It comprises six safety systems that can provide warnings and even braking assistance to help avoid or reduce the severity of a potential collision, explained below in both text and video:

Pre-collision Braking system

Flashes a warning on the dashboard and sounds an alert to make the driver aware of a potential collision. If you fail to take evasive action, the brakes will be applied automatically. If you brake but don’t apply enough pressure, the system will increase the braking force.

Pre-collision Throttle Management

Gives you a visual and audible warning if you accidentally select drive instead of reverse when parked facing an obstacle. The system will also cut engine output to help avoid a frontal collision.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Improves driver comfort and convenience during long journeys and during stop-and-go motorway conditions. It allows you to set vehicle speed and distance from the vehicle in front. By constantly monitoring distance and speed, the system adjusts the engine, transmission and brakes accordingly to maintain a speed appropriate to the traffic flow.

Lane Sway Departure Warning

Alerts the driver with a visual and audible warning if your car sways or starts to change lanes without signalling.

Lane Keep Assist

Offers gentle corrective steering control if your car starts to deviate from its lane.

Lead Vehicle Start Alert

Flashes a warning and sounds an alert if the vehicle in previously stationary traffic ahead has moved, but you haven’t.
